Jr. (b, 1742 Baltimore MD) and Elspa Lawrence. His approximate age and year of
birth is confirmed by the 1860 census.

!1784 PARENTS: This researcher has not found a primary birth record for Arthur
Chenoweth 3rd, but there is a great deal of circumstantial evidence
establishing his parents as Arthur Chenoweth Jr., b 1740 Baltimore and Elspa
Lawrence. The DAR records for the father, Arthur Chenoweth Jr.,
show a son named Arthur born in 1784. It is well known that the family of
Arthur Cheonoweth Jr. moved to Jefferson County Kentucky in the mid 1780's and
relocated to Bartholomew County Indiana in 1822. A younger Arthur followed
the movements of the Arthur Jr. through these moves (or visa versa). It is
reasonable to conclude that this younger Arthur is related to the older
Arthur. The given name of Arthur 3rd's second son, Arthur Lawrence, show a
strong linkage to Arthur Jr. and his wife Elspa Lawrence.

!1811 MARRIAGE-CONFLICT: In 'The Chenoweth Family in America' by Richard and
Shirley Harris. (1994), on page 345, Arthur Chenoweth, son of Arthur Jr. and
Elspa Lawrence, is listed as having married Ann Clark in Baltimore on April 4,
1811. This is clearly in contradiction with the 1809 marriage of Arthur
Chenoweth to Elizabeth Edmonson in Nelson County Kentucky. The marriage to
Elizabeth in the adjacent Kentucky county seems much more likely than a
marriage in a city five hundred miles away. It is believed that the Harris'
were in error in this regard. Other circumstantial evidence, mostly involving
the family names in the naming of children, support the 1909 Arthur Chenoweth-
Elizabeth Edmonson marriage in Nelson County.

age 44 and after death of Nelson in 1832 but before 1840 census. Therefore
if Arthur Jr. remarried, the marriage to 2nd wife occurred after 1832. There
is an unknown woman in the 1840 census 26-45. But there is no wife in 1850
census. Nor is their any record of a remarriage in Barthomolew County. The
conclusion is that Arthur did not remarry.
