!NAME-CHANGE: Sometime before 1870 Gustav Pehrson (Peterson) changed his
family name to LANDBORG. My "Petersons" were actually "Pehrson" which is the
non-Anglisized spelling of the name.
[1199]
!IMMIGRATION: Gustav came to America in late 1867 or early 1868. This is
confirmed by the 1900 Census which states he was had 32 years in US. According
to that census, he had been in America for one year longer than his wife.
Emma arrived before January 5, 1869 (her marriage date) thus it would imply
that Gustafv arrived a year earlier, late 1867 or early 1868. His obituary,
1909, states he had been in the US 40 years which somewhat confirms 1868
although with less accuracy.
[1200]
!RESIDENCY: Gustaf and Emma were married and lived in Geneva Geneva Il. In
1882, according to his 1909 obituary, the family moved to Elgin IL. This is
confirmed by the 1880 census which found the family in Geneva.
[1201] !PROFESSION: Gustav was a blacksmith.
[1202]
!1869 MARRIAGE: Kane County Marriage Records Index, Certificate #7305, in
name of Gust P. Landborg and Emma Ek, Jan 4, 1869. Note that the surname
change to Landborg has already been made and that the marriage took place in
Kane County, Geneva so the couple had already vacated Chicago.
[1203]
FAMILY LEDGEND: Ruth Landborg, Indianapolis IN, stated that he heard that the
family changed their name to become Americanized and wanted nothing to do with
the Old Country. They moved to Elgin to "get away" from the Swedes. Swedish
was never spoken in the house.
[1204]
!1909 DEATH: Kane County Death Certificate No. 14046, dated Jul 1, 1909.
Death 16 March, 1909 due to Chronic Librous Mryocarditus.
