Writings

This page contain links to some of my writings. For me,
writing is a way to express myself and to relive experiences. My
writing is probably not very good (on an absolute scale) but it
is meaningful to me. I share it here with some reservations since
it tends to be personal. But who will ever read my home page
anyway?
- The Met
This short story concerns my discovery of the
Metropolitan Opera House in New York while I was a
college student.
- Stories My Father Told Me
I didn't write this collection of stories. My father
wrote them down, over a series of fifteen years, to be
retold as parts of chapel talks he made at Blair Academy,
a boys bording school. I have edited them, but it is
really the voice of my father who speaks.
- Alaska Diary
In 1990 my daughter, Victoria, and I flew our plane to
Alaska. This is the story of that trip.
- My Life as a Foster Child
Every life has a few rough moments. This is a story about
one of mine.
- The Shave
Who doesn't profoundly regret some action take in one's
life, some opportunity forever lost.
- The McCuaigs of White County
My ancestors were working people, farmers, who came from
Scotland to Indiana.
- Old Bunny
I wrote this story with the intent to recount the saddest
thing I've ever heard.
- How Not To Sell Your Airplane
9208M was part of the family, but we didn't realize it
until he was gone forever.
- Margery
My Aunt Margery lives in Carmel. She is one of life's
truly remarkable people. This was written in 1991 and
then sat in the drawer for three years, before I gave it
to her.
- Bill Mann
In January of 1995 my Uncle Bill died. This is a tribute
to him that I wrote in the hour before his memorial
service. I regret that I did not get up and read it
than, as it would have been very appropriate.
- My Big Sister
This poem is an ode to my sister Anne Paul Law on the
occaision of her 70th Birthday, November 25th,
2000.
- George Wood
This is my second memorial poem, written for my
father-in-law who died in April, 2000. Gayle asked
me to write something. I wrote it on the plane
coming back from Trinidad for the funeral. But it
is Gayle who is speaking,
- The Queen
Nostalgia for the past is one of my weaknesses,
especially if the past is preserved. This was my first
attempt at rhymed poetry.
- First Mooney
Caravan to Oshkosh
I helped organize and was the flight leader for the first
Caravan to Oshkosh, a flight of 42 airplanes. It felt
like being King.
- Tommy Carter
One meets the very finest of people quite by accident.
When our plane made an emergency landing in Texas, we
found one such person.
- Belmont
The day I discovered horseracing, I also had to retire
some long held prejudices. Why
I Love My Mooney
Who says an airplane doesn't have feelings?
- A New Instrument Panel for An Older
Mooney
In 1988 I made a major improvement to our Mooney Aircraft
Why My Father Drinks Budweiser
My daughter wrote this but it's about things me, so maybe
it's relevant.
- Belize Honeymoon
In 2004 we flew our Mooney to Belize and Guatemala in the
company of our friends Morten and Monika who were on
their honeymoon.
- Cancer
Diary
In August of 2001 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
This is a 2-year diary of my experience with the Gerson
Therapy, an alternative therapy releying on diet. (This
diary is huge)
- Ground Zero
I visited the World Trade Site in the fall of 2003. It
did not proved the theraputic effect I was looking for.
- Early Memories
Between my birth and age five we lived in Schenectady. I
recently found this collection of quirky memories from my
early years. I think small children can be very astute
observers.
