"John B. Martin -- The subject of this sketch was born in the Azores
Islands, Apr. 3, 1877, a son of Antonio and Mary Martin, both natives of
the same place, who came to Calif in 1893. Here the mother died, but
the father, now eighty years old (1990), is hale and hearty. When our
subject was fourteen years old, he left his native home and came to the
United States and directly to Sacramento, where he received a fair
education in the public schools; he learned the barber's trade and was
also employed by the So. Pac. RR Co. Since Aug., 1915, he has been a city
employee, occupying the position of city pound master.
" The marriage of Mr. Martin in 1896 united him with Miss Rose
Azevedo, a native daughter of Sacramento, and they are the parents of
five sons and one daughter: John B., Jr.; Irene, Mrs. Frank Gregory, now
the mother of two children; George, Ralph and Arthur, employed by the
So. Pac., and Raymond. Fraternally Mr. Martin is affiliated the the Red
Men, U.P.E.C. and the I.D.E.S. of Sacramento and in politics votes with the
Republican party."
John was the first of the family to come to this country.

Elizabeth could be the Mary E. (Elizabeth) Rice. "

resident of the Sacramento area for 27 years. Services will start at
9:20 AM in the Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in the
Grant Mem. Cem.
" Mrs. Hunter, the wife of the late Newton B., died Saturday in the home
of a daughter, Mrs. Lelah A. Frates of 4175 Broadway. For many years she
resided on Auburn Blvd., in the Arcade districk.
"Surviving also are her other children, Mrs. Grace Moody and Ray G.
Hunter of Sacramento, Cecil L. Hunter of Lynwood and Jessie B. Hunter of
Michigan; 18 grandchildren and 39 great greandchildren."
