1784; to Wilkes co., N.C. by 1787, on Beaver Creek waters of New River
(now Ashe Co.). John not in extant records after 1797, but his family is
on tract 'Andrew Baker gave John Fouts.' Sons? (? is author's) . . . (This
family either scattered and regathered at intervals or dodged the census
takers. Local sheriff's and constables found them, for while they show
erratically in the Censuses, they show consistently in Ashe Co. court
records.) Dunkers and Baptists."
