After getting your e-mial, I contacted my uncle Marvin. He is the
researcher you see on my home page. He was just as excited to hear about you
and your work, as I was to see it.
I shared with him the information you have on Lucy Carman who married
Peter Abell. Marvin shared with me, and asked me to pass along to you the
following...
Caleb Carman married Elizabeth(some think Seaman). They had a son
named Joshua.
Joshua married Lucia "Lucy" Dayton. A probate record dated 8 OCT 1718
states that Joshua appears to have deserted the county. Marvin believes he
left for Maryland about 1708. Joshua and Lucy had a son named Caleb.
Caleb Carman was born in Cecil County, MD 30 AUG 1711. This birth
appears in the St. Mary's Parish register. Caleb married twice. He married
first _?_ Miller. Caleb and Miss Miller had the following daughters. Ann,
Rachel, and Mary. Ann was born circa 1752. Caleb married second Mary Nevill
circa 1757. Caleb and Mary had a son named Joshua. Joshua was born circa 1759.
Caleb's will mentions his "eldest daughter" Ann, as well as the other two
daughters and Joshua.
Joshua Carman married Sarah Bruce and they left for Nelson County, KY.
Marvin explained to me that sometimes all children are not mentioned in
a will. This can be for a variety of reasons, such as a daughter received her
portion of the legacy when she married.
Marvin believes that based on the dates and locations you have for
Lucy, that she may be the daughter of Caleb Carman, and a sister to Ann,
Rachel, Mary, and Joshua. He believes that Lucy may be the second to the
oldest daughter of Caleb. He is adding Lucy to his database to reflect this
pending further search.
